Special needs children are some of the most marginalised in Myanmar, often victims of neglect, separation from their parents and even lifelong institutionalisation.
Our partner organisation, New Heaven Learning Centre is one of only a few special needs education facilities for over five million people in Shan State, Myanmar. They have been supporting children with disabilities for two years.
With the goal of expanding and supporting more children, New Heaven reached out to Circuit International.
Initially New Heaven sold educational toys to schools and homes in Myanmar as a way to fund the expansion. After one year of trial and only breaking even, the business model has changed to making and selling organic soaps which are sold to the local hospitality industry.
A second project that is run by New Heaven is the production of a Video CD (VCD) of music written by famous local Myanmar musicians. These VCDs also feature some of the students of New Heaven. The project has the primary purpose of raising awareness about the talents of special needs children in Myanmar. The VCDs will be launched by the end of 2017.
